Cañon City's Hollywood Connection
As part of the City of Cañon City's 150th Anniversary celebration, we're delighted to announce the theme for the 2022 event: "We Are Made of Stars: Spotlight on Our Past"
We invite our attendees to embrace our region's history by wearing vintage formal attire. As always, the event is black tie. Women are expected to wear evening gowns, and men are expected to wear tuxedoes or formal suits. Through our decor and entertainment, we'll be shining a light on our region's Hollywood history:
The 1920’s silent film industry found its way to the region as filmmakers capitalized on the area’s scenic beauty and mild climate. After a renaissance of filming in the 1940s, Cañon City came to provide the location for over 40 motion pictures, including “The Cowboys” (1970) starring John Waye, “Lightning Jack” (1994) starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Beverly D'Angelo, and “Our Souls at Night” (2017) starring Jane Fonda and Robert Redford.
The community will host a number of celebratory Sesquicentennial events throughout the year, along with First Friday events each month. Follow the website for more information on how you can participate.

From Buckskin Joe to Grape Creek and Main Street, the Royal Gorge Region played host to dozens of films and movies during the early part of the century. We'll bring history and the present together in a spotlight on our area's iconic, cinematic beauty.
Dress in your glamorous Hollywood best (black tie) and join us at the historic Theater at the Royal Gorge Bridge - the only building saved from the 2013 Royal Gorge Fire.
Live music. Stargazing (perhaps the glamorous kind as well as the celestial). Delicious food. Late-night dancing. We'll have it all...and we hope you'll be there.

“But what thrilled me most was the fact that millions of meteors burn up every day as they enter our atmosphere. As a result, Earth receives ten tons of dust from outer space. Not only do we take in the world with each breath, we are inhaling the universe. We are made of stardust.”
